New Dewsbury community group gets housebuilder backing

A brand-new community support group in Dewsbury has been given £1,000 from a regional housebuilder to help support its running costs.

You Are Not Alone (Y.A.N.A) received the donation from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire’s Community Champions scheme, an initiative which awards £2,000 to two charities in the region each month.

Set up by Cliff Craven and Beverley Clayton, Y.A.N.A was launched in August as a community group to help reduce isolation for residents of Dewsbury.

Cliff said: “We are a very young group born from the desire to bring the ‘unity’ in the community. We meet every Friday at Dewsbury Town Hall and currently offer wellbeing services, such as yoga, meditation and massages. However, people can simply just come for a tea, coffee and chat.

“We are really grateful to Persimmon Homes. Being such a new group, we have a lot of initial outlay costs and this donation is a huge help to ensure we can serve the community without the immediate fundraising concerns.”

Simon Whalley, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “Support groups can provide a valuable lifeline to the community, so we are delighted to get behind Y.A.N.A.

“This is exactly what our Community Champions scheme is all about, supporting good causes to make a positive change in the areas we work.”

Nationally the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme has a fund of up to £60,000 each month to share among worthy causes.
