Yorkshire architects set to design new London restaurant and market
Self Architects and White Design have been appointed as designer of a unique, upscale eating and food retail experience on the Greenwich Peninsula.
The Market Table is to offer 2,000 products across 11 different areas in the flagship 4,000 sq ft store next to the O2 Arena.
Alongside a 56-seat restaurant, there will be four different prepared food counters as well as an Espresso programme, fresh baked products, a delicatessen, specially sourced seasonal produce and exclusive pantry items.
Sheffield-based Self Architects and White Design, who have offices in London, have a growing hospitality and retail portfolio.
Managing director, Kevin Unwin, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed as designer to this exciting new brand.
“It’s always rewarding to develop designs from the concept stage with a client who has such a clear passion and vision.
“The brief is all about making sure the food is always the show that visually brings to life The Market Table experience and we are confident that our designs in this fantastic location at the heart of New London will do just that.”
The practice is part of the Trebbi Family of companies that all operate within the construction industry to provide a complete suite of multi-disciplinary building consultancy services.
Doncaster-born Market Table owner and operator, John Barton, has 30 years of retail and hospitality experience and was previously chief operating officer for iconic food brand DEAN & DELUCCA.
He said: “Market Table will bring to the New London Development an exciting hospitality and food shopping experience not yet seen in London.
“We want to create an environment that excites all the senses and, working closely with the English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish Food Boards, we will champion seasonal produce with a menu that celebrates our food heritage whilst also embracing international cuisines.”
The showcase MARKET TABLE store will serve the growing New London office and residential populations as well as domestic and international visitors. It is expected to open next summer with plans for a further 10 stores across London by 2023.
