Festive Focus: Bdaily chats to Cushman & Wakefield's Tim Cameron-Jones

Today, we speak to Tim Cameron-Jones, international partner in investment and head of Cushman & Wakefield’s North region.

Can you introduce yourself and your business to our readers?

“I’m Tim Cameron-Jones. Cushman & Wakefield is a leading global real estate services firm with 400 offices in approximately 70 countries employing 48,000 people.

“However our roots go back to a number of family businesses founded in the UK, going back as far as 1784. In Yorkshire and the north, the founding company was Bernard Thorpe, which became DTZ in 1993.

“We have 11 offices in the UK, including Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle. I am head of the North region.

“We offer a full range of commercial property services from these offices, to clients including; occupiers, landlords, investors, developers (residential and commercial) and have particular strength in serving the public sector.”

What was your company’s biggest achievement of the year?

“The corporate highlight of 2018 was our listing on the new York Stock Exchange. This huge achievement was marked by 14 colleagues from around the world ringing the bell to open trading on NYSE on August 2, 2018.

“The incorporation of the Cushman & Wakefield brand has been a major success for the business in 2018, in particular in geographies, such as Leeds and Newcastle where there was not a Cushman & Wakefield footprint before the merger with DTZ.”

How would you approach 2018 differently, given the chance?

“2018 has been tremendously successful for the North region, however one thing constraining our growth is recruitment.

“We have brought in many new people, but if I had known just how hard recruitment was going to be across the whole property industry, I would have started earlier in 2018 and gone at it much harder.”

What are your company’s plans for the new year?

“Growth. Through recruitment and development of additional service lines which complement the core skills we have.”

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

“I have two, both of which my wife hates as she says they are not ‘Christmassy’ and the singing is ‘flat… Bruce Springsteen’s Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town and The Pogues/Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale of New York.”
