New apprenticeship provider Code tackling region's digital skills gap

NEW digital apprenticeship provider Code is helping to tackle the region’s skills gap.

Sunderland-based Code are already working with several clients to produce trained apprentices ready for work.

Simon Howatson, Code’s Founder and CEO, said: “There is a huge demand from business for digital skills and we provide a vital service in introducing talented apprentices to businesses and providing the training needed to ensure they can add value and kickstart their digital careers.

“I want the young people of this region to see that there are lots of fantastic employers out there who are willing to invest in growing digital talent.

Since its conception last year Code has created a number of jobs, recruited an experienced team and begun to deliver training to employers from across the UK of all sizes.

Local entrepreneur Jack Deverson, MD of Evidence Based Education, said: “I have recently moved my business to Sunderland as it is a fantastic area for digital skills. My business provides online courses and technology to train staff from some of the best schools in the world.

“I decided to work with Code to help me to recruit apprentices passionate about digital skills to grow the future leaders in my company. My business has grown year on year, but digital skills will be crucial to keep this momentum going.”

Nathan Taylor, a current apprentice at Code and Infrastructure Technician at DC Reclamation, said: “Choosing an apprenticeship in something digital was easy for me. I have always enjoyed solving problems and I am really enjoying the mix of hands-on training in the business and theory through our week-long teaching blocks. The mix of developing my skills whilst working and earning was the right choice for me and I’m excited about how I can develop my career through this apprenticeship.”
