Audiologist to take on London Marathon for hearing loss charity
A DEDICATED audiologist will run the London Marathon in a fundraising bid for a small international hearing loss charity.
Emma Singer, Trainee Clinical Lead at Specsavers Sale, is set to run the 26 mile marathon for Sound Seekers on April 28.
Sound Seekers (The Commonwealth Society for the Deaf), is a charity which works to improve the lives of people living with hearing loss in some of the poorest communities in the world.
The charity, which Specsavers have supported for many years, enables access to hearing healthcare and education by working in partnership with schools, hospitals and wider stakeholders across Africa.
The challenge will be Emma’s second marathon, and she has been met with an abundance of support from customers and staff members, who hold the charity and its work close to their hearts.
Emma Singer says: ‘In a country where audiology services are readily available, such as the UK, it is easy to take our hearing for granted. In poorer parts of the world where people don’t have access to hear care services, the work of Sound Seekers is truly invaluable.
‘I’m nervous but I’m blown away by the support from my colleagues and from the local community. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who’s donated so far. We have less than two months to collect more donations, so it would be amazing to raise that figure and help the charity that goes above and beyond every day to support those with hearing loss.’
