New £50m government-funded 'London to Scotland' rail service unveiled

The Secretary of State for Scotland has welcomed the launch of the new Caledonian Sleeper service in Glasgow.

The government has reportedly invested £50m to replace the fleet and improve facilities on board. The Caledonian Sleeper service is set to vastly improve transport links between Scotland and London.

David Mundell - Secretary of State for Scotland - commented on the news: “It is fantastic to see the launch of the new Caledonian Sleeper service.

“The UK government has invested £50m in the new fleet, improving vital connectivity between Scotland and England, and improving the service for the thousands of passengers.”

The government’s investment in this new fleet marks its ‘commitment’ to better the UK’s infrastructure. The Lowlander Service’s new carriages for travel between London Euston and Edinburgh and Glasgow have also been revealed to the public.

This will be followed by the introduction on the Highlander route between London and Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William soon.
