New engineering firm creates 10 jobs in Hull

The former production manager of an engineering company that closed last year has launched a new business, creating ten new jobs in Hull.

Paul Waters created Point Eng Ltd with the aim of providing bespoke steel engineering products and services and has already secured a number of contracts since launching the business in spring.

The new business owner worked at Point Engineering Ltd for 16 years and was one of the 22 staff members who lost their jobs when the firm closed in December.

To help steer the new firm towards success, Mr Waters purchased intellectual property and specialist equipment from Point Engineering Ltd.

Paul said: “It has been my intention to have my own engineering business, so Point Engineering (Hull) Ltd’s closure offered me an opportunity.

“I am very pleased that I’m in the position to employ some of the accomplished team and commence the journey of shaping my new company.

“The intention is to grow through providing a fantastic service and through innovative approaches to client projects.”

To date, nine former employees of the Point Engineering Hull (Ltd) team have joined Mr Waters at Point Eng Ltd along with an additional staff member, taking the total number of jobs the new engineering firm has created to ten.

Point Eng Ltd will trade from the former Point Engineering Hull (Ltd) site on Lee Smith Street, East Hull.

The firm offers services including welding and fabrication of structures from concept to completion, shot blasting and renovation of steel and non-ferrous items.

Capitalising on the business’ location close to the Humber ports, the new engineering firm’s customers include companies from the marine, renewables and manufacturing sectors in Yorkshire, the south coast, the Shetland Islands and Sweden.
