North East police officers launch international training venture

Three North East senior police officers have set up a company to offer police training around the world.

Timothy Shilston Associates (TSA) will specialise in British community police techniques, drawing on the founders’ specialist knowledge in international police development and judicial reform, particularly in war zones and post-conflict areas.

Offering courses in community policing, institutional reform models and bespoke training and development services, the firm aims to provide training to suit the specific needs of a country, and has plans to unveil iuts

TSA owners and experienced police officers Timothy Shilston, Peter Wilson and Bill Brame set up the business with support from local firm Samuel Phillips Law, having worked in 60 countries between them.

Since his retirement from Northumbria Police in 2012, where he spent 30 years and was most recently assistant chief constable, Timothy has worked in international police development, completing projects in New York, Afghanistan, Palestine and Ukraine.

TSA co-owner and director Timothy Shilston explained: “We decided to create the company because we could bring together a remarkable group of people with immense experience in international policing, to ensure a quality product to compete with the best worldwide.

“Our training courses always takes account of the local circumstances. A standard model doesn’t work for every country and circumstance, and our understanding of war zone countries makes a real difference to results.”

Robert Gibson, senior partner at Samuel Phillips Law, added: “Timothy Shilston Associates is a great example of a company with skilled practitioners from the North East creating a high-quality enterprise able to offer unique expertise worldwide.

“We were delighted to be instrumental in the setting up of this innovative company from the outset, and to have advised it on important aspects which we believe will help it prosper.”
