Employment law firm triples workforce in first year

Husband and wife partnership Simon Robinson and Juliet Ralph have tripled their team and secured 25 national employer clients in various sectors since they started the firm one year ago.

The duo head up Leeds-based law firm, Robinson Ralph, and have taken on four new team members thanks to a successful first year in business.

With more than half of new businesses failing before they reach the end of their first year the pair are thrilled.

Simon Robinson has worked in large corporate law firms for most of his career, and disillusioned with their one-size-fits-all approach, he decided to set up a firm which would offer a more bespoke service to clients.

He said ‘We’ve had an amazing first year and have achieved well beyond what we’d expected in terms of growth and clients when we started out on this journey last July. We’ve increased our team with two employment lawyers and a paralegal and a mediation consultant joining us to ensure that we can service our growing client base effectively, which on average is increasing by up to three new corporate clients per month.

‘Juliet and I wanted to bring a refreshing approach to employment law, a move away from the traditional legal firm to one that is forward thinking, won’t bamboozle clients with legal jargon and works with them to deliver the right results.

‘We’ve proved there is a need for a firm like Robinson Ralph and so for next year, we have ambitious plans for growth. We have been very lucky to have been approached by some well-known household names recently, so we have hopefully exciting times ahead and plans to increase our team by a further two paralegals and two employment lawyers by the end of our second year.’

To celebrate their first birthday, Robinson Ralph held a birthday party at Radisson Blu in Leeds for their clients, suppliers, family and friends.

Pam Steed Managing Director, Monarch Personnel said: ‘I am delighted to have worked with Robinson Ralph during the firm’s first year! Their “can-do” approach is second to none. I love the fact that you can generally make a call and get the answer to a query or problem during that same call. I was used to having to call, then follow up with written details by email and then to have wait for a few days for a response!

‘Simon and his team really recognise that “people problems” need to be resolved quickly to allow any business to get on with its core business objectives. The team is energetic, alert and keen to understand your business rather than just wanting to maximise billable hours too. The whole approach is totally refreshing!’

At their first birthday party, they launched their new RRoyalty Club which gives clients a private section on their website and exclusive access to employment law and HR resources including top tips, training webinars and precedents.

Juliet Ralph added: ‘Simon and I believe that people do business with people, not with brands. Clients are not just another file number for us – we want to be seen as an extension of their team. Our focus is on prevention rather than cure which is why we have set up the RRoyalty Club so that we’re on hand to give guidance, training and proactive support.’
