Richard Marsden, Building Design (Northern) Ltd
Richard Marsden has concluded a management buy-out, taking over as sole shareholder of architect and civil engineering practice Building Design (Northern) Ltd (BDN).
Richard joined the firm 15 years ago as an undergraduate at Northumbria University, and has since become a director and shareholder.
In his new role Richard will take on overall responsibility for the business, directing its work and that of its 11-strong team.
Commenting on the buyout “Having spent my whole professional career at BDN, I am delighted to now be in a position of owning a business I’m extremely passionate about.
“I’ve seen huge changes during my time with BDN, having built the architecture arm of the business from a standing start.
“I’m really excited to now be in a position to oversee the ongoing growth and development of the whole firm.”
Lincoln Easton, NBS
Business development specialist NBS has appointed Lincoln Easton as its country lead for its Australian operation.
Lincoln, who has experience across the construction industry, founded Payapps in Melbourne in 2012 with the aim of streamlining the payment application submittal and approval process in the construction industry.
Prior to this, Lincoln worked in the construction industry for 10 years heading up his own firm Easton Builders.
Commenting on the appointment, Chris Slinn, chief revenue officer for NBS, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Lincoln to head up our Australian operation and we are very excited about growing our work with businesses in Australia.
Lincoln added: “I am really excited to be part of the global expansion of NBS and in helping to develop business across Australia.
“I will be bringing my knowledge of the Australian market to bear and I am really looking forward to helping them grow the market in Australia.”
Alan Rutter, Crabtree
Metal decorating and coating equipment provider Crabtree, has promoted Alan Rutter as senior director.
Previously the firm’s Asia-Pacific spares projects sales director, Alan joined the firm in 2000 as a technical trainee before moving into the business development team.
In his new role Alan will be driving Crabtree’s sales strategy as well as launching new product innovations.
Commenting on his appointment, Alan said: “I’m delighted to be taking up this position at Crabtree. Having been lucky enough to work in the business for as long as I have, and to be given the opportunities I have been given to progress in my career, I’m determined for everyone in the industry to enjoy the gold standard in customer relations we offer.

Loraine Henderson, Costner Brown, Sarah Orton and Caine Longstadd, Excelpoint
Software specialist Excelpoint has made four new appointments. Loraine Henderson has joined the firm as marketing and customer engagement manager, Costner Brown joins as sales and marketing executive, Sarah Orton comes onboard as business consultant and Caine Longstaff joins as an apprentice.
Loraine previously managed her own marketing consultancy business, has over five years’ experience on the board of directors at Roman Limited and has worked for national brands within telecoms, cable television and the gas and electricity sectors.
In her new role Loraine will be responsible for the development of the Excelpoint brand, the implementation of a new marketing strategy, management of the customer experience, and will support the sales drive.
Costner has worked for Excelpoint during holiday periods whilst studying for a degree at Leeds Beckett University. He will be responsible for supporting both the sales and marketing activities across the business.
Sarah joins the team after spending over three years as a regional sub-unit support officer responsible for managing the Army Reserves recruitment process for Newton Aycliffe and Newcastle.
Prior to this, Sarah was a telecoms technician supporting EE call centres and data centres with responsibility for telephone, network connection and structure cabling.
Caine has commenced an apprenticeship with Excelpoint through the apprenticeship supplier Baltic, working within the consultancy team as well as being responsible for the development of customer-specific software systems.
Ian Brown, managing director of Excelpoint, commented: “With ambitious growth plans for 2019 which include establishing the Excelpoint brand as a key player in the software sector and growth in new sectors, we also took the decision to expand our sales and marketing department.
“We have made four outstanding appointments for Excelpoint. All of them will play a key role in realising our business growth strategy, and the appointments will add a wealth of experience and resource to the business.”
