The Piece Hall welcomes four new independent retailers

Four new independent retailers have joined refurbished 18th century cloth hall The Piece Hall in Halifax.

Art shop Custard Create, The Handmade Gift Shop, childrenswear store Shop 4 Little Horrors and jewellery specialist Leon K Dewhurst have all found new homes in the Grade I listed building.

Custard Create has taken a 397 sq ft unit on the colonnade level of tha hall, offering art and photography to purchase as well as commissions, arts and crafts classes and photography services.

Selling a range of gifts including textiles, metal art and jewellery, The Handmade Gift Shop is located in a 294 sq ft unit on the colonnade level. Owned by crafting entrepreneur Shelly Foster, all of the shop’s stock is handmade by 49 different independent crafters from across the Yorkshire region.

Located in a 294 sq ft unit on the colonnade level, Shop 4 Little Horrors specialises in nearly-new children’s designer and high street clothing, as well as gifts, Jomanda soft toys and an ‘Adopt-A-Teddy-Bear’ service.

Jewellery shop and workshop Leon K Dewhurst has taken a 490 sq ft unit alongside the other new businesses on the building’s colonnade level. Previously based in Settle, North Yorkshire, he decided to make the move to The Piece Hall after seeing the newly refurbished building on BBC One’s Antiques Roadshow.

In addition to the four new businesses, vinyl and coffee shop Loafers - which was one of the first businesses to open in The Piece Hall - is moving into a larger unit on the arcade level of the building.

Nicky Chance-Thompson, chief executive of The Piece Hall Trust commented: “It has always been the Trust’s vision that independent businesses can establish themselves in The Piece Hall and thrive. It is fantastic that Loafers have been able to expand their business in just two short years.

“The four new additional shops add something totally different to the already eclectic and vibrant retail offering that we have here; I wish them all great success and I’m so pleased that they have chosen to be a part of our wonderful Piece Hall community.”
