Bake Off judge backs opening of new restaurant at historic Halifax mill site
A new neighbourhood-style restaurant has officially opened at a historic site in West Yorkshire.
True North Restaurant launched last week at Dean Clough Mills in Halifax, with restaurateur, chef and The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith in attendance.
Previously the old Viaduct Café in the Main Mill, the new eatery comprises an open kitchen, dining area and bar, as well as sharing an entrance with The Viaduct Theatre.
Headed by executive chef Mark York, True North offers a range of dishes, including pre-theatre menus and Sunday lunch, in a setting featuring concrete floor and exposed brickwork, green leather seating and potted plants.
Mark explained: “I have a fantastic team in the kitchen who are excited about creating some exceptional dishes and putting this restaurant on the foodie map.”
Once a historic hub of industry, Dean Clough Mills has been transformed into a commercial, retail and leisure destination in recent years.
Restaurant executive director Sarah Horsley added: “Halifax is a big deal and Dean Clough is an inspiring place to be. Right in the centre.
“It has a unique mix of commerce and culture and we’re proud to be right in the heart of Halifax’s heritage.”
