Casters required for recruitment drive as Black Country foundry continues to expand
A fast-growing Midlands foundry is searching for experienced die casters and other skilled workers after enjoying an increase in demand in 2020.
Midland Pressure Diecasting (MPD) has recently completed a £250,000 investment drive by boosting its aluminium and zinc casting output via the purchase of automated machines and an additional new ‘Frech’ die casting machine.
The company is now looking to take on four casters to help it cope with new orders in healthcare, automotive and high-value engineering.
Its latest recruitment drive will focus on employing experienced aluminium and zinc pressure die casters to support the firm’s supply to additional high volume sectors, before a longer-term plan is put into place to grow its own staff through a mentoring scheme designed to pass down the expertise to a new generation.
“It has been a really positive start to the year, despite all of the economic uncertainty that has been plaguing industry,” commented Ash Suman, Managing Director at Midland Pressure Diecasting.
“Rather than waiting to see how Brexit plays out we’ve decided to take pre-emptive active by investing in new fully automatic diecasting machines, which provide further efficiencies and create an additional 20% capacity that we’re already starting to fill.
“We have seen business gains in both aluminium and zinc, hence why we took the action to also purchase a new Frech zinc die casting machine.”
He continued: “There aren’t that many experienced casters out there as it’s quite a specialist role, which is why we’re embarking on a major recruitment campaign to try to attract four new experts to the team. We are also looking to recruit in other specialised areas of our business, such as in CNC and maintenance engineering.”
The new year recruitment drive has already started, with the company employing an experienced CNC process engineer to oversee the increasing CNC machining work and a new quality manager.
The latter brings with him ISO and TS experience gained at a leading OEM and additional lean manufacturing principles, which are being incorporated into improving the existing business processes.
Ash concluded: “Our tool room is proving to be a very successful part of the company as we can now work on special projects to improve internal processes. CNC scope has even expanded to machining on a sub-contract basis to complement our die casting efforts.
“2020 looks like it could be a very positive year and, with the investment generating further capacity, we are in a strong position to expand as a business and create even more new jobs.”
Midland Pressure Diecasting, which boasts a £4m turnover, offers aluminium and zinc high pressure die casting services to customers in batch sizes (ranging from 50 parts to 5 million) and with components as heavy as 6kg produced at the company’s two facilities spanning a combined 80,000 sq ft.
The company supplies high quality tooling and provides CNC machining services to customers who require parts to be supplied finished for their assemblies.
