North East redevelopment project to deliver 82 new coastal homes

Permission has been granted for the construction of 82 new homes as part of a regeneration project in Sunderland.

The new homes are set to be built on a parcel of land the coastal suburb of Seaburn, behind the cleared Seaburn Centre site.

Housebuilder Avant Homes has been appointed to deliver a combination of two, three and four-bedroom family homes, as well as a range of detached and semi-detached properties.

North East regional director, Jennifer Tupman, commented: “We are committed to creating a development that meets the needs of the local community and delivers exceptional new homes for Sunderland.”

The news follows 12 months of negotiations between the local authority and Hexham-based Hedley Planning Services to secure permission, and forms part of a larger regeneration strategy in the city.

Joe Ridgeon, director at Hedley Planning Services, added: “Working closely with the planning authority and the developers from the outset has been invaluable in securing planning approval.

“As planners, we want to see the creation of exciting and rewarding housing schemes that leave a long-lasting legacy.

“This one will undoubtedly see a real positive change to this part of Sunderland.”
