Former skate park offers ‘unique’ development opportunity in North East coastal town
A ‘unique’ parcel of land in Redcar has been identified as an opportunity for development by the local council.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has identified the RKade site on Majuba Road as a potential opportunity for a leisure-led development.
The 2.65-acre site near the TunedIn! music venue was formerly home to a skate park and soft play area.
Cllr Wayne Davies, Cabinet member for economic development at the council, commented: “We are marketing this excellent opportunity on Redcar’s seafront as it’s our long-term ambition to transform the Coatham area into a leisure destination for visitors and our residents.
“The site, with its unique and uninterrupted views across the beach, is the first phase of that ambition. The area is close to Redcar’s town centre, train station, and the South Tees Development Corporation, so it really is in prime position.”
The development of the site forms part of a wider regeneration plan for the town, which includes the redevelopment of the Regent Cinema on the town’s seafront.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen added: “There is a massive amount of potential for this site, right on the beach at Redcar, to boost the town’s leisure offering and it’s part of a huge change happening across Redcar and Cleveland.
“The combined authority has already invested in the historic Walled Garden at Kirkleatham and the town’s Regent Cinema, and funding for this new development is another example of how we’re delivering to improve the day-to-day lives of people in the town, and across Redcar and Cleveland.”
