Facing COVID-19: Home care company creates 10,000 new jobs to combat isolation

A London-based home care company that operates nationwide is creating 10,000 new jobs in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Cera Care, which specialises in providing domestic care services to the elderly, has announced its biggest ever recruitment drive as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent self-isolation.

Driven through the company’s digital platform, applicants will take online skills development courses followed by assessments to become formally certified as a carer, allowing successful applicants to begin working immediately following the ten-day application and certification period.

Dr Ben Maruthappu MBE, co-founder and CEO of Cera Care, commented: “Coronavirus has impacted every single part of our society, with an unprecedented burden being felt by our elderly population, families and the NHS.

“To help beat the virus Cera is creating 10,000 jobs providing critical support to our country’s NHS at a time when it needs it most, through a combination of our carer workforce and best-in-class technology.”

Horus Patel, CTO of Cera Care, added: “At this time of immense pressure we have to use technology to create new solutions that change how we work in days not months, putting people back to work, empowering the front-line response to coronavirus and supporting the elderly & isolated.

“We are keen to emphasise that this announcement isn’t a stopgap, or a short-term solution. These are long-term positions within our company, and we hope this will encourage those recently left without work, or even those currently employed, to consider getting trained and becoming part of this crucial community.”
