Facing COVID-19: the tech specialist helping employers to maintain social distancing through digital alert wristbands
A tech firm in South Yorkshire has formed a new partnership to create a new digital alert wristband designed to support social distancing in the workplace.
Contrac IT, which is based at the Digital Media Centre (DMC) in Barnsley, has worked in collaboration with safety tech firm Tended to develop the digital wristband technology.
The wristbands are designed to measure the distance between wearers, vibrating to alert the user when they detect another device within two metres.
The wristband is just one of the new technologies the firms have worked on, with other developments including new thermal screening cameras to enable managers to routinely monitor staff for signs of infection and a UVC disinfection system which can be used to scan rooms and kill virus pathogens.
Contrac IT managing director, Mark Harding, explained: “The companies we supply want to ensure their staff have real peace of mind at work.
“Whether they are food producers who have continued to work through this crisis or other manufacturers who are just looking to restart operations, they need processes in place to safeguard the health and well-being of their workforces.
“We’ve very much taken the view that if there is anything we can do to help, then we should. We’ve talked to our friends at Tended and at other companies and launched a range of synergistic solutions to help businesses mitigate against the spread of the virus in factories, workshops and offices.”
