Sophie Foster, Ellie Hirst, Ciara Scanlon and Leah Williams, Chadwick Lawrence

Legal firm Chadwick Lawrence has appointed four new trainees following a number of internal promotions.

Sophie Foster, Ellie Hirst, Ciara Scanlon and Leah Williams have been given training contracts commencing in 2020 and 2021.

Sophie Foster has been at the firm for just over a year, joining after completing her law degree at University of Manchester and her legal practice course at the University of Law last year.

Ellie Hirst joined Chadwick Lawrence in spring 2019, having achieved a first class honours LLB degree and a distinction in the LPC LLM at the University of Law. Outside of work Ellie is also part of the Huddersfield and Dewsbury Law Society.

Leah Williams joined Chadwick Lawrence’s employment law team during her second year at university in 2018. Leah completed her degree at the University of Law in Leeds achieving first class LLB honours degree and she is currently working towards her LPC and masters in law.

Ciara Scanlon has also worked in the employment law department since 2018 and frequently volunteers to help with front of house responsibilities. After graduating from Newcastle University, she is now studying towards her LPC and masters of law.

Neil Wilson, managing partner of Chadwick Lawrence, commented: “All four individuals have shown great commitment to adopting The Chadwick Lawrence Way whilst helping find ways to continuously develop the firm.

“We are extremely proud of our training scheme and it is great to see a number of colleagues progressing their careers through this training route.”

Teela Clayton, SLBPR

PR agency SLBPR has appointed Teela Clayton as account executive.

Former english teacher Teela has recently undertaken a master’s degree in public relations and strategic communication at Leeds Beckett University,

Commenting on her appointment, Teela said: “I can’t wait to get started with the team and to share in the successes they have achieved.

“It’s a fantastic environment for me to grow and to indulge my passion of communication.” Managing director Sharon Brigden added: “It’s been unbelievably busy for SLBPR during lockdown, supporting clients during an extraordinary time.

“We have worked closely with several clients on their back to work strategies and are looking forward to seeing them embrace strong futures.

“Teela approached us during this time and we were so impressed by her attitude and proposal that we interviewed her quickly and appointed her immediately. I am sure she will make a great addition to the team.”

Dan Scott Paul, Black Sheep Brewery

Black Sheep Brewery has appointed Dan Scott Paul as head brewer.

Dan, who first joined Black Sheep in 1998, has held the role of interim head brewer since January, and has now been appointed on a permanent basis to lead the brewing team at the Masham-based brewery.

Dan began his career with Black Sheep as a 16-year-old on the cask racking line, which he did alongside his studies at Agricultural College.

Returning in 2002 as brewing/process operator, Dan progressed his career to QA brewer then second brewer, before securing the role of interim head brewer earlier this year.

Obtaining his IBD diploma in brewing in 2013, Dan is currently in his final year of a five-year master brewers course.

Dan commented: “I feel very privileged to have been appointed Head Brewer at Black Sheep.

“As a 16-year-old working on the racking line I wouldn’t have dreamed that one day I would achieve this position, and I want to thank the whole team at the brewery for the support I have had throughout my time here.

“I am fortunate to have gained a lot of experience with previous Head Brewers, and look forward to taking up the mantle to drive innovation and creative brewing with the support of our amazing production team.”

Rob Theakston, managing director at Black Sheep Brewery, added: “We’re really excited for Dan to be leading the brewing team. He has been part of the Black Sheep family for almost two decades, and perfectly represents our values, traditions and forward thinking approach.

“His knowledge and expertise will allow us to continue to drive innovation and fresh thinking, which is epitomised by our 5 Barrel Project, an initiative led by Dan to create a range of new wave beers that have no constraints on style or ingredients.

“Dan has also been instrumental in the development of a number of award-winning beers in his tenure at Black Sheep, so we’re excited to see him continue to push brewing boundaries and create exciting brews.”

Gareth Bovington, Econ Engineering

Gritting and road mending specialist Econ Engineering has appointed Gareth Bovington as facilities manager.

Gareth, who was facilities and environment manager at the Monks Cross shopping centre, on the outskirts of York, will supervise the day to day running of each of Econ Engineering’s sites in Yorkshire, Alloa and Cardiff.

Working alongside the firm’s maintenance manager Fernando Sarmento de Alencar, Gareth’s role will encompass a raft of responsibilities, including procurement, budgeting, waste management, the health and safety of staff and visitors, staff training and ensuring the company is fully compliant with the latest legislation.

Econ Engineering sales director, Andrew Lupton, commented: “Gareth brings with him a huge amount of experience in Facilities Management, and is well schooled in all the procedures and legislation required to run a safe and secure operation employing a large workforce.

“It is a senior position within the business, and we are confident in Gareth’s abilities to fulfil the duties of this demanding and challenging role.”

Gareth added: “I’m looking forward to joining Econ Engineering during this exciting period of expansion.

“Over the last 15 years, I’ve gained a vast amount of experience in running large, multi-occupancy sites, managing a team of 12, and it is this knowledge I’ll be bringing with me to this well-established engineering company.”

Lucy Melleney, Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park

Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park has appointed Lucy Melleney to its board as community director.

Lucy is the chief executive of Darnall Well Being, a local not-for-profit community anchor organisation.

Lucy commented: “Darnall Well Being has 20 years’ experience of engagement with the community in Darnall, Tinsley, and Acres Hill, building trust and working in partnership to help people in ways that work best for them.

“We offer one to one and group support, workshops and training, as well as signposting information about local and national support to help improve health and wellbeing. “We are well placed to collaborate with Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park and partners to further develop this work and achieve greater outcomes.”

Sandi Carman, assistant chief executive of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, added: “As a founding member of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is delighted to welcome Lucy to the board as a community director which will help us deliver improvements in the health and wellbeing of the local community through collaboration, education, awareness, activities and events.

“We already work closely with communities in the surrounding area through our Park partners but by having Lucy on the Board we hope to engage even more to help with the delivery of the London 2012 Olympic legacy through the themes of sport, community, environment and economic regeneration.”
