Housing development underway at emerging North East seaside destination

Work has begun on a new residential scheme at a growing coastal town in the North East.

Housebuilder Avant Homes has started construction work on its new Lowry Park development in Seaburn near Sunderland.

Located off Lowry Road near the Seaburn seafront, the scheme will deliver a range of 82 two, three and four-bedroom homes, occupying a 8.19 acre site behind the seafront’s developing leisure offer.

The first home is expected to be available for sale later this year, with all properties scheduled to be completed by 2023.

Avant Homes North East regional director, Jennifer Tupman, commented: “Lowry Park will be an impressive development and as a Sunderland-based business we are very pleased to be playing a role in the wider regeneration of this part of the city.

“This landmark development will be a significant contribution to Sunderland City Council’s plans for this desirable seaside suburb alongside the leisure offer currently in development and we’re pleased to get groundworks underway and take the next step in bringing our very latest range of homes to buyers in the area.”

Progress on the development follows the launch of street food and entertainment venue STACK Seaburn, which opened its doors last week.

Cllr Rebecca Atkinson, cabinet member for Dynamic City at Sunderland City Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see Avant get started on building a stunning new neighbourhood, that will add to Sunderland’s housing offer, creating an attractive new community close to our seaside.

“Plans for Seaburn have quickly moved ahead over the last few months, and I’m glad to see this – the latest in a line of significant improvements to the seaside – move forward.

“It’s part of a wider vision for a vibrant mixed-use community at Seaburn, that will ensure more people choose it as a place to live and play.”
