Entrepreneurs encouraged to join Northumberland coastal ‘tourist hot spot’

A commercial developer has urged local and national businesses to register their interest for an upcoming destination at a coastal site in Northumberland.

Blagdon Estate has partnered with @retail to bring to market the first phase of a new scheme at Blyth’s South Beach.

Comprising 16,000 sq ft of space, the first phase of the the two-storey development on Links Road will provide a range of retail units for both local and national brands.

The first floor of the development will also provide over 4,300 sq.ft. of commercial floor space accommodating leisure uses such as a health and fitness studio or restaurant.

Stuart Hall, director at Kingsmead Developments, development partner with Blagdon Estate, explained: “This is a very important time to focus on the delivery of jobs for the area as well as new services and amenities which can benefit both local residents and visitors.

“We are very keen to establish a vibrant hub of local independent traders to help increase tourism and create local job opportunities.”

Director of Newcastle-based @retail, Ian Thurlbeck, commented: “In the past week we have launched the new website, brochure and marketing signage which is an exciting moment in the transformation of this site.

“Given the popularity of South Beach amongst tourists and day visitors, as well as the size of the local community, there are a range of uses that could work very well. We look forward to talking to established operators and new businesses about their ideas.”

Local Member of Parliament, Ian Levy, added: “This development will be great for Blyth and in particular South Beach which is already a popular destination for so many visitors.

“It builds on existing success to create new investment opportunities for businesses and employment for Blyth residents.

“I’m really grateful to Blagdon Estates and Kingsmead Developments for investing in Blyth and I cannot wait to see site works up and running.”
