£200m Redcar investment projects could deliver up to 750 jobs

Plans for a series of multi-million pound investments in Redcar could create hundreds of new jobs if approved.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s cabinet are set to consider £200m worth of investment projects that will bring up to 750 jobs to the local area.

The Borough’s Area Growth Plans set out a range of regeneration plans designed to boost the economy, create jobs and support businesses over the next four years.

Plans include the redevelopment of Eston precinct, the rollout of Redcar Town Deal’s exciting development schemes including a water sports hub and activity centre, and the latest purchase of a key Loftus building in the aim to help transform Loftus High Street.

Cllr Wayne Davies, Cabinet member for economic development at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, commented: “Our Area Growth Plans demonstrate an equalisation of funding across all parts of Redcar and Cleveland and are an ambitious and aspirational programme of regeneration for the borough.

“Many of the schemes are fully costed and others we would need to find investment, but this plan sets out our vision for the area over the next four years. Of the plans that have been fully worked up, these could deliver more than 750 jobs and 160 new businesses.

“The level of investment by the Council and other key partners in the borough is unprecedented in recent years; we want to ensure that our residents see outcomes that benefit their lives and to deliver real prosperity across the borough.”

Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen, added: “These ambitious plans are extremely exciting for Redcar and the surrounding areas. They will completely transform the town and create hundreds of local jobs for local people.

“With our free parking scheme being introduced next year, we are working hard with Leader of the Council, Cllr Mary Lanigan and everyone at the council to make Redcar an even more attractive place to live, work and visit, and these regeneration plans are just the start.”
