Business adviser unlocks success at North Wales door company
A North-Wales business which supplies doors across the UK has found the key to success thanks to support from a business adviser.
Door Warehouse has increased its turnover by nearly 30 per cent in two years and is on track to grow a further 50 per cent in the next 12 months.
The catalyst for the expansion was director Dan Maiden engaging with business coach David Roberts from The Alternative Board (TAB), which culminated in a new strategy and direction for Dan in the company.
Dan took a step back from the day-to-day sales activity to take an overarching view of marketing and working on the business.
And the move has resulted in Deeside-based Door Warehouse and its sister company Door Station tracking to hit £1m turnover this year, with £1.5m projected for 2022.
In addition, to help facilitate the growth, new members of the team have joined the company while its roster of subcontractors has also expanded.
Door Warehouse sells doors across the UK and fits them throughout domestic properties in the North West. Its sister, Door Station, is an e-commerce website where people can buy products.
Dan said: “The Door Warehouse was founded in 1993 by my dad. I joined the company in 2010 in sales and decided three years ago I wanted to drive things forward.
“I met David by chance and when we got chatting, I realised how he could help me. I had a lot of thoughts in my head about improving the business, but I couldn’t organise them which made it difficult to action. This is where David really stepped in and helped.
“With the help of David and the group sessions, I was able to focus my attention on marketing and bring customers through the doors and then rely on my sales team to help convert those into customers.
“Most importantly, my target for this year was to increase turnover and we smashed that.”
And the benefits have extended beyond the business world.
Dan added: “Being able to concentrate on other aspects of the business and knowing the staff can take on the day-to-day running of the place means I’ve got more time to spend with family.
“My confidence has also improved when dealing with other businesses, customers and employing people.”
David, who works with business leaders across North Wales and Cheshire and is also chair of the North Wales Regional Skills Partnership, said: “I’ve enjoyed working with Dan and it’s rewarding seeing him reach the goals and targets we planned together.
