Built for Athletes to Offset Carbon in New Sustainability Drive
Built for Athletes has partnered with Ecologi, a leading tree-planting and climate action funder in a new sustainability drive for the brand.
The gym backpack specialists launched the initiative to offset the brand’s carbon emissions with the project seeing one tree planted for every order placed with Built for Athletes.
Since the launch of the new partnership, Built for Athletes has helped plant more than 4,250 trees, offset over 3.5 tonnes of carbon and saved in excess of 11 square metres of sea ice.
By the end of 2021, Built for Athletes aim to have planted over 26,000 trees and offset more than 20 tonnes of carbon.
Nick Costello, CEO of Built for Athletes, said: “We’re extremely excited to be partnering with Ecologi to underline our commitment to sustainability.
“We know that as a business and as individuals we must all play our part in helping the environment and preserving it for future generations. This new initiative will provide a lasting legacy and is something we’re very proud of.
“By choosing to purchase from Built for Athletes our customers are giving momentum to this sustainability drive. It’s fantastic to see this initiative already making an impact with more than 4,250 trees planted in Madagascar, Mozambique and Nicaragua.”
Dennis Hettema, Head of Business to Business at Ecologi, said: “We created this service to remove the barriers companies face to making great contributions to the climate emergency.
“As a business we are motivated by securing a prosperous future for the planet and Built for Athletes clearly share this mindset, making for a perfect partnership moving forward.
“We’ve already made a significant impact by planting 8.2 million trees and reducing more than 285,000 tonnes of carbon through various projects throughout the globe and we’re delighted that our new partnership with Built for Athletes will not only contribute to its success but also help raise awareness.”
Built for Athletes are on track to post sales of £4M for this financial year ending March 2021, a £2M increase on last year’s figures, illustrating the steep growth trajectory the brand is experiencing.
Built from the frustration of being unable to find a suitable backpack to hold gym equipment, Built for Athletes now supports more than 60,000 fitness fanatics globally and that number continued to grow during the pandemic despite the widespread closure of gyms across most markets.
This recent growth has given Built for Athletes confidence moving forward when consumer demand is expected to rocket further once gyms reopen.
