Manchester pillow brand pledges to offset its carbon emissions by planting trees for every pillow sold

A Manchester-based pillow brand has pledged to offset the carbon emissions from the full supply chain of its pillows.

From July 2021, Levitex, which was launched in 2018 and uses a unique pressure-relieving foam technology to help those with neck and back pain, will plant two trees for every one of its pillows sold as part of a drive to become a more sustainable business.

Founder, James Leinhardt, has teamed up with Play It Green, a Manchester based sustainable-first platform that helps businesses become more climate positive through tree-planting. Taking into account Levitex’s full supply chain, Play it Green were able to calculate that two trees would need to be planted in order to offset the carbon emissions from the full product lifecycle of one Levitex pillow.

The new trees from Levitex will be planted in areas where there is a critical need to restore healthy forests, including Madagascar and Kenya.

Richard Dickson co-founder of Play it Green said: “We’re so excited to be teaming up with Levitex as they embark on their journey to becoming more eco-friendly. Brand sustainability is high on the agenda for so many consumers now and it’s no longer just a box-ticking exercise for brands.

“Trees reduce extreme poverty by providing jobs, food and sustainable habits. They filter water, prevent floods, help wildlife flourish and regulate the climate. The list of benefits is endless and that’s why the team at Play it Green are committed to spreading more awareness to UK businesses and those passionate about helping the planet.”

James Leinhardt, Founder and CEO at Levitex said: “Since we launched Levitex in 2018, we’ve always been keen to build a business that’s as eco-friendly as possible. From the beginning, our foams have always been vegan-friendly in that they contain no animal derivatives, but as we take the next step as a business, we’re keen to make sure we continue to do the right thing when it comes to our carbon footprint.

“We explored our options when it came to addressing this and Richard and the team at Play it Green completely understood our mission and developed the right solution for us.

“I’m really proud to say that Levitex HQ is now 100% carbon negative and for every Levitex pillow manufactured and sold from July, we will offset their carbon emissions by supporting the critical growth of forests and rainforests around the world.

The growth and support for Levitex since its launch has been phenomenal, but it’s equally important for us to consider our sustainability and the environment as we grow into the global sleep market.“
