Ben Hicklin, Canal Turn
Nottingham’s new restaurant and leisure offering, Canal Turn, has appointed an industry expert, Nottingham born and bred Ben Hicklin, to lead its events programme, bolstering its growing team with two decades of experience.
Sneinton based Ben joins the team as the head of events, where he’ll oversee the top-floor events space, Upstairs at Cleaver and Wake, and the outside plaza and bandstand, as well as the venue’s two restaurant offerings, Cleaver and Wake and Binks Yard.
Ben will work alongside Bistro Pierre founder John Whitehead, the project’s food and beverage director, and Gary Rudkin, the newly appointed head of operations, who has previously worked on impressive projects across Dubai and the UK.
Ben said: “I couldn’t be more pleased; this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m so proud to be a part of this exciting journey. I was born and raised in Nottingham, and care deeply about highlighting the talent from Nottingham’s creative arts community and the project’s overall success.
Ben previously worked for Mellors Group, where he successfully managed and facilitated music artists and famous performers, ensuring the smooth running of popular events in Nottingham, including the Christmas market and summer beach.
John Whitehead said: “It’s been fantastic to welcome Ben to the Canal Turn team. His incredible experience will be a much-needed asset to the project team’s success, and we are over the moon that he’s agreed to join us.”
Paul Chedzey, WorkLife
WorkLife by OpenMoney, the Manchester based employee benefits platform, has promoted Paul Chedzey to Head of Sales as part of its long-term growth strategy. He joined WorkLife in April 2021 as relationship director, leading the development and expansion of the firm’s corporate adviser channel.
Before this he held senior relationship management positions at a number of fintech companies including Open GI, IRESS and Intelliflo. In the newly created role of head of sales, Paul will be responsible for driving WorkLife’s business development efforts forward and expanding the firm’s existing network of partners and distributors.
Working closely alongside him will be relationship director, Greg Mahon, and Craig Maxfield, who was recently promoted to business development executive after he joined WorkLife in October last year.
Niamh McLaughlin, Managing Director of WorkLife, commented: “The impact of Paul’s work has been felt throughout the whole business this past year, and he has played an instrumental role in bringing WorkLife’s offering to the corporate adviser community.”
Paul added: “With so many firms struggling to recruit right now, the case for investing in a high-quality benefits and wellbeing package has never been clearer.
“WorkLife makes doing this accessible and affordable for everyone and, over the past year, it’s been refreshing to work alongside a team so genuinely passionate about helping companies do the absolute best they can for their employees. I’m honoured to be stepping into this role and cannot wait to see what the future holds.”
