H&M Metrocentre to reopen with emphasis on “customer experience and sustainability”
H&M (Hennes & Mauritz) is placing store services at the heart of their new Metrocentre store, which offers a new interior look and feel for the brand that “puts customer experience and sustainability first”.
According to H&M UK & Ireland country manager Toni Galli, H&M Metrocentre “will be the leading store of the Northeast. H&M Metrocentre has a welcoming, modern and meaningful shopping experience where style, creativity and culture are celebrated.”
Founded in Sweden in 1947, H&M opened its first UK store in 1976. Over 40years later, H&M’s UK and Ireland portfolio has grown to include more than 200 stores. Customers visiting the new Metrocentre store will notice a “warmer and relaxed environment”, as well as a lower volume of products which will be displayed in a “curated and inspirational way”.
With sustainability at the heart of its business model, H&M continues to lead the transition to “circular, climate positive fashion”. These values will be built into the foundation of the new Metrocentre store which offers H&M’s Garment Collection and Recycling service.

Launched in 2013, H&M’s Garment Collection and Recycling scheme allows customers to donate any unwanted clothes and textiles, by any brand, whilst shopping in-store. All donated items are recycled with zero per cent going to landfill.
To encourage customers to use their Garment Collection programme, H&M offer Conscious Points in addition to a digital voucher. The H&M garment collecting scheme is just one example of the many projects H&M has implemented to lead the change towards 100 per cent circularity.
Toni continued: “We are extremely excited to open our Metrocentre store today. It’s always our aim to offer our customers a modern and meaningful shopping experience and we are confident that our new store at the Metrocentre, which offers our beloved HOME concept and new services, we will offer exactly this!”
Ben Cox of Sovereign Centros, senior asset manager for Metrocentre, added: “Over the past year we’ve been working on delivering an ambitious business plan to reinvigorate Metrocentre and attract major international brands and new occupiers.
“The investment by H&M, and introduction of the region’s first H&M Home, demonstrates Metrocentre’s position as a leading retail destination. It is set to be an exciting couple of months for the centre!”
