Architecture practice opens new studio in Newcastle
Architectural practice Corstorphine & Wright is opening a new studio in central Newcastle, adding to its portfolio of studios across the country. This is Corstorphine & Wright’s 11th studio in the UK and the second in the North East of England, with a studio already located in Darlington.
The launch of the new studio marks the continued growth of the practice, currently ranked at number 24 in the AJ100 by the Architects’ Journal. The North East is historically a key area for industry and investment in the UK and Corstorphine & Wright recognises the continued development in the region as a powerhouse for growth in the construction industry in particular.
The Newcastle studio will be run by recently appointed acute and primary healthcare expert, Laura Ruxton. Laura joined Corstorphine & Wright in early spring 2022 as Associate Director, her extensive experience in healthcare architecture will allow the practice to further extend its support to healthcare providers, on projects such as hospitals and care homes.
Working across multiple sectors such as residential, commercial, retail, emergency services and with a wide range of public sector clients, Corstorphine & Wright will offer communities and stakeholders in the North East a unique perspective that incorporates innovation from across its vast wealth of experience.
Laura said, “the new studio in Newcastle is a fantastic opportunity for Corstorphine & Wright to create a hub for architectural brilliance in one of the fastest-growing cities in the UK. We look forward to becoming part of the city’s infrastructure and providing economic growth by way of employment and new architectural projects.
“Our ethos is built upon enriching and enlivening communities with thoughtful, intelligent design and we are keen to bring this mentality to the new studio. As Newcastle is a university city, we are certain we will discover some new talent and up-and-coming stars of the architecture world.”
Corstorphine & Wright is committed to supporting the local community by selecting talent from the North East region and creating employment opportunities. The practice is looking to fill a number of junior and senior positions for the new Newcastle studio.
Being a large established architecture practice, covering multiple sectors, Corstorphine & Wright can offer many benefits to its employees. Although studios are locally based, the practice extends its reach to national and international projects, allowing teams to expand their project experience. As well as having access to incredible resources, and visualisation and design software.
Laura added, “this is an exciting time for the practice, myself and the Newcastle team will build upon our already established reputation across a number of sectors and further develop our relationship with Newcastle city centre and beyond into the Tyne and Wear region as a whole.”
