Mycardirect teams up with Egg to crack electric vehicle home charging challenge

Mycardirect, the AAM Group car subscription provider, has teamed up with Egg, part of London based Liberty Global Group.

This “exciting” new partnership sees Mycardirect offering the cost of Egg’s EV home charging subscription with every new EV contract of 12 months completed or more. The offer creates a more “flexible, one stop shop” customer proposition, as it builds on the previous strengths of the Mycardirect subscription service:

  • All-inclusive package, with no maintenance, RFL, MOT or replacement tyre worries
  • Transparent subscription fee, enabling customers to budget easily
  • Paperless journey: 100 per cent online experience offering easy, hassle free access
  • Complete flexibility: from 1 to 48 months, with multiple options in-between
  • Wide range of vehicles: customers can switch from petrol to electric, family saloon to SUV

The partnership comes at a particularly pertinent time, as from April this year, the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) is no longer open to homeowners in single unit properties and the £1,500 grant for EV purchases has also been withdrawn.

The new Mycardirect Egg partnership aims to be a “positive step” to help address these possible barriers to entry as charging at home is frequently recognised as the most convenient and cost-effective means of running an EV.

Mycardirect customers can now switch to an electric vehicle without facing the potentially prohibitive cost of installing and maintaining a home charging unit.

Mycardirect CEO Duncan Chumley commented: “Our fully flexible subscription service already offers our customers a peace of mind proposition when making the switch from petrol or diesel to electric.

“This is why 28 per cent of our fleet is electric compared to the UK market mix of around 14 per cent. The inclusion of Egg’s home EV charging subscription takes another potential barrier out of the equation and, therefore, we anticipate further EV growth within the Mycardirect fleet”

Gareth Greppellini, B2B director at Egg, added: “Mycardirect and Egg share some great synergies, including our shared aim to make driving an EV simple and affordable so drivers will make the switch with confidence.

“We are delighted to have entered this partnership which will enable Mycardirect customers to charge their EVs in the most cost-efficient and convenient way - at home.”
