Green companies invited to take part in Darlington's sustainability event
Sustainable and eco-friendly companies and organisations still have time to get involved in the new Darlington Sustainability event taking place on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 June, 10am-3pm.
A wide range of businesses have already signed up to the two-day event that will see a range of stalls, exhibitions and interactive activities, all with a sustainability theme. These include local garages, Acorn Dairy, Sustrans, The Woodland Trust, Stroodles - Eco Tableware, and many more.
The event will offer a unique opportunity for businesses to help showcase their sustainable practises, products and services and how they are working towards being more sustainable and, in some cases, carbon neutral by reducing waste and energy usage.
Local food producers and makers are also encouraged to take space at the event aimed both at the public and at businesses who are keen to find out more about living and working in a more sustainable way.
Not for profit organisations, nature groups, local community groups as well as health and wellbeing and sustainable arts and crafts will all be encouraged to take part hosting exhibitions and demonstrations.
There will be an option of indoor space in Central Hall (Dolphin Centre) and outdoor space on producer/maker stalls in the market square.
The Mayor of Darlington, Anne-Marie Curry, said: “As part of my Mayoral year I am keen to see a large-scale event aimed at living more sustainably taking place in the town. Older residents may remember the popular Green Fair that was held in South Park in days gone by. This event aims to refresh and build on this and I am delighted to see it come to the town centre.”
Councillor Jonathan Dulston, leader of Darlington Borough Council, added: “I am delighted to see this event in our town centre and welcome it as a chance to showcase what is happening across our borough to address the serious and pressing issues around climate change and how this can be tackled by living and doing business in a more sustainable way.
“I urge any local business to get involved - either as an exhibitor or to come along on the day to find out more about how they can become more sustainable in their practises. In addition, we want residents, young and old, to come along and find out how they too can live and work in a more sustainable way.
“As a council, we’ve made a pledge to become carbon neutral by 2050. This pledge covers all service areas and includes our aim to encourage residents and businesses to join us on the journey towards a greener and more sustainable future. This event will help us take steps on that journey.”
