Hattrick of businesses take space at Newcastle's Generator Studios
A significant investment to refurbish and enhance the amenities at Generator Studios, Newcastle, has paid-off as three tenants sign new office deals, including two that are taking additional space.
Knight Frank has brokered deals with Black & White Engineering which is expanding its footprint to accommodate expansion; tech firm, Refract is also taking an additional 1,000 sq. ft., and digital design agency, Edward Robertson, has signed a lease for another five years.
The building, which has nine tenants, has been revamped to include several informal meeting and social break-out spaces, including some with standing desks; bike racks; showers; complimentary coffee; 1GB superfast broadband; and a calendar of on-site community events.
Originally based at The Core at Newcastle Helix, Refract offers software that helps organisations improve their sales teams’ performance and is going from strength to strength. This is the first time Edward Robertson has renewed a lease in its 20-year history after an extensive search of all the creative space available in the Newcastle office market.
Edward Robertson director, Graham Miller, explains: “This is the first time we’re renewing our lease rather than moving on - the creative community and quality of the accommodation at Generator Studios is what really sets this building apart for us.”
The landlord - a joint venture between Vengrove and ASK Partners - purchased the property in 2018 for £6.45m and has since invested to modernise the building to better meet the needs of post-pandemic occupiers.
Global mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering design specialists, Black & White Engineering (B&W), has moved to a bigger office space within the building to support the expansion of its North East team which has grown 10 fold since it was established in 2014.
Steven Horn, UK and Europe Director at B&W Engineering, said: “Our B&W Newcastle office is coming up to its ninth birthday in 2023 and there is no better way to mark the occasion than with a move to bigger, better space.
“The move comes at a fantastic time for the business where we are continuing our organic growth globally, and the bigger space will enable us to support our larger number of employees as we continue to expand our client base throughout the UK and Europe.”
Graham Miller, director, Edward Robertson, comments: “We’ve been working in Newcastle for 20-years at various sites. We moved to Generator Studio five years ago and we’re looking forward to five more. This is the first time we’re renewing our lease rather than moving on - the creative community and quality of the accommodation at Generator Studios is what really sets this building apart for us.”
Edward Robertson is a web, design, and digital agency with offices in Newcastle and Darlington. Working with a range of well-known North-East brands including Fat Hippo, Vermont Hotel and Muckle LLP, the team at Edward Robertson plan, design, develop and support trusted tech solutions for websites, web apps and back-end systems. The firm occupies 1,500 sq. ft at Generator Studios.
