Leeds Building Society invests in apprenticeships to attract new talent
Leeds Building Society has announced the launch of a new apprenticeship cohort as it looks to attract new talent to the business. The 12 vacancies across finance, risk, auditing, data and business administration will offer candidates invaluable experience while earning a salary.
With record numbers of school leavers choosing not to go to university, Leeds Building Society has recognised the importance of providing them with alternative career opportunities which will allow them to earn while learning.
Working in partnership with a number of training providers, Leeds Building Society’s apprenticeship programme will provide all the knowledge and skills for the selected apprentices to be successful in financial services.
The Society has a strong history in working with developing talent. Lucy Rodley, senior enterprise risk business partner at Leeds Building Society, started her apprenticeship at the Society in 2016 and has quickly worked her way up through the business.
Lucy said: “ I am so grateful for the opportunities I have had as a result of my apprenticeship and am proud to work for a business which nurtures young talent to develop their careers.
“When I finished my A-Levels, I accepted a position at Edinburgh university. But after a few months I knew the course wasn’t for me and moved back home. At that point I wasn’t quite sure where my career would take me, but having seen a vacancy for an apprentice in the risk management team at Leeds Building Society I decided to take the opportunity and I have never looked back.
“I learned a lot over my first few months in role, received fantastic support from the Society and quickly developed the key skills I needed to get started on my career path. I’d urge any students with an interest in working in financial services to apply.”
Kate Fisher, director of culture and learning at Leeds Building Society, said: “We believe it is important to invest in the the future, and our commitment to apprenticeships allows us to offer people the opportunity to earn and learn, something which is front of mind for many, in particular school leavers in the current economic climate.
“This new apprenticeship cohort will offer exciting career development for successful candidates. We will work with the new apprentices to build their confidence, teach important and transferable skills and set them up for future success.
“By investing in apprentices, we are also investing in the future of the business. Building an engaged and diverse pool of talented colleagues will help us on our journey of delivering our purpose of putting homeownership within reach of more people.”
