Libra Seafoods expands operations with second site

A leading sustainable seafood processor is expanding its North East operations, thanks to support from Newcastle-based Mincoffs Solicitors and Dunlop Heywood.

Libra Seafoods sources produce from across the Far East and South America, which is processed and distributed from its base at Unit D, Viking Business Park, Jarrow. After experiencing increased demand in recent years, the company has made the decision to grow the business and take over a neighbouring unit, with further plans for investment into the site.

The family firm specialises in producing and delivering prawns to the retail, wholesale and food service market and is committed to sustainable practices to minimise impact on land and sea environments and the surrounding communities.

Tony Wynne, finance director at Libra Seafoods, is delighted with the new space. “Whilst our management team have many years’ experience in the seafood processing business, when it comes to lease renewals we needed expert advice to make sure our plans were future proof and to avoid the many potential pitfalls,” he said.

“Andrew Chandler from Dunlop Heywood not only helped with negotiations but also offered sound advice every step of the way, proving flexible in his approach as our plans changed during the process. Keith Ravenhill at Mincoffs dealt with the legal side and managed to communicate to us in simple terms making efficient use of our time.

“He was always available and very accommodating working late into the night when the requirement arose.”

Keith Ravenhill, associate solicitor in Mincoffs Solicitors’ real estate team, advised on the terms of the lease and transactions for both the existing and new unit.

“It was fantastic to work with the Libra Seafoods team on their expansion and realise their growth plans for the next stage of the business,” he said. “Renewing the lease at the current site enables the business to continue to deliver their high quality service, while the new unit puts them in an excellent position for further growth without disruption to the existing operations.

“It’s a great move for the business and I look forward to working closely with the team on future transactions.”

Andrew Chandler, director at commercial property specialists Dunlop Heywood who negotiated the deal on behalf of Libra Seafoods, said: “We are delighted to have completed on this acquisition which is pivotal to the continued success of Libra Seafoods.

“This is a very exciting time for them and it is great to see a local family-run business going from strength to strength. Their expansion plans will help to create more jobs and add a welcome boost to the region’s economy.”
