New College Durham and CECOS College London unite to expand higher education opportunities
New College Durham and CECOS College London have announced an exciting new partnership which will see CECOS College London delivering a New College Durham Foundation Degree program with the aim of encouraging students from disadvantaged backgrounds to move onto higher education.
This new five-year partnership has been formed due to the aligning vision and values of both organisations. It will see the first students enrolling on the Foundation Degree programme in September 2023. Students will study at CECOS College London’s Bradford and London campuses.
Both New College Durham and CECOS College London are dedicated to delivering high-quality higher and further education opportunities to students. The alignment of educational missions between the two organisations has driven this collaboration, with the aim of educational excellence, innovation and fostering stronger student communities.
“We are thrilled to embark on this transformative partnership with CECOS College London,” said Andy Broadbent, principal and CEO of New College Durham. “The partnership has been founded on shared values which will enable us together to expand access to higher education and equip students with the skills and qualifications that will make them stand out in the job market.
“Our shared vision is to enable increased access to transformative education for every student, resulting in positive opportunities and outcomes.”
One of the key features of this partnership is the introduction of the Foundation Degree program by CECOS College London. Mudassir Tanveer, managing director of CECOS College London explains: “For the first time, CECOS College London will offer this two-year program. This will provide our students with the opportunity to attain a Level 5 qualification that significantly enhances their employability.
“This innovative approach allows students to either transition directly into the workforce with a valuable qualification or seamlessly progress to a full honours degree, either immediately after completion or at a later date. The model of a two-year programme can prove much more accessible to some students.”
New College Durham recently achieved a significant milestone by being granted indefinite powers to award foundation degrees by the Office for Students. This prestigious recognition places New College Durham amongst a small group of further education providers in the UK with the authority to award their own named foundation degrees. This has enabled this strong new partnership with CECOS College London to be formed.
New College Durham’s impressive track record in higher education is highlighted by its University Centre’s outstanding National Student Survey (NSS) results. An exceptional 89.6 per cent of students expressed satisfaction with the teaching quality on their programs, surpassing the sector average by an impressive 4.72 points.
This partnership between New College Durham and CECOS College London signifies a positive step forward for both educational providers and their students.
