Ecogee wins major homes energy efficiency deal with Cobalt Housing
Energy and construction specialist Ecogee has won a contract with Cobalt Housing to deliver a £2.7million investment to install energy-efficiency measures at 287 homes across North Liverpool.
The Aintree-based firm will work on the properties as part of a £4.7million investment to improve energy efficiency in households alongside Cobalt Housing; which has secured funding for the scheme from a share of £31.7million secured from the Government by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
Ecogee’s Managing Director Brendan Helm said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen to work with Cobalt Housing on the retrofit project. Being able to deliver much-needed energy-efficient solutions to so many homes gives us great confidence that we are on our way to tackling fuel poverty.
“There are more than 37,000 people living in fuel poverty in Liverpool and Sefton, so projects like these are vital and hopefully aim to lower our local communities’ gas and electricity bills, as well as reducing carbon emissions overall.”
The funding forms part of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), and the Home Upgrade Grant, which will help social housing providers to tackle fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and make homes across the Liverpool City Region more energy efficient by 2025.
Ecogee, which was recently shortlisted for the Green Homes Upgrade of the Year award at the 2023 Unlock Net Zero Awards, will deliver £2.7million worth of retrofit measures by installing new ventilation, loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and Solar PV into the properties, as well as improving the energy efficiency of the homes which currently have an energy performance (EPC) rated below SAP Band C.
The business will also conduct £2million worth of investment works in the homes which will include the installation of new kitchens, bathrooms, and re-wiring.
“Our success in being awarded this contract is a testament to the great works the Ecogee team have been doing across Merseyside,” said Maria O’Connor, Operations Manager at Ecogee, “By working together with Cobalt Housing and Ridge and Partners, in partnership with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, we can create better economic growth through these job opportunities, while also giving the community better-run homes that will help towards the Net Zero plan.
“It’s fantastic that Cobalt Housing has recognised this and together we can forge a path towards a more energy-efficient, sustainable and prosperous future for all.”
The retrofit measures form part of the decarbonisation investment schemes to ensure the governments targets to have homes ‘fit for future’ are being met. The schemes will also create 20,000 jobs in the construction and home retrofit sectors.
Ecogee will be able to create a further 10 jobs for the works which are due to start in mid-September with the project concluding at the start of 2025.
The firm’s success on the new contract follows their award on the new decarbonisation Greener Future Partnership Framework earlier this year, which involved Pretium Frameworks.
