‘Agency for Agencies’ doubles workforce to bridge demand for digital talent

Yorkshire-based, virtual agency, Interim Digital, celebrates its second full year in business by doubling its workforce, which was founded to transform the freelancer community model.

Interim Digital has capitalised on the demand for digital talent by growing a trusted and highly experienced community of digital specialists from ex-agency backgrounds to plug the growing digital skills gap that many agencies are facing.

The growing demands of new, evolving technologies are contributing to a skills gap across industries. A study by Gallup and Amazon Web Services, found that more than two thirds (68 per cent) of UK businesses find it challenging to hire the digital workers they need. Interim Digital agency was launched to help plug the growing digital skills gap that agencies across the UK are facing.

As they celebrate their 2nd birthday, the Interim community has doubled in size to 100 members and since launching, is set to turn over £500,000 within the next 6 months.

Founder of Interim Digital, Ginny Nicholls, who has worked in the digital marketing industry for over 12 years now, explains the challenges more traditionally modelled digital marketing agencies are facing due to expensive overhead factors:

“Headcount for vanity is becoming extinct and the agencies that stick to that model not only put unnecessary pressures on themselves to constantly keep channel work coming in but they also add significant employment overheads to their monthly outgoings.

“The more agile agencies are using the freelance partner approach more and more as the ability to turn on and off senior level support, and therefore cost, as and when needed is a great way to scale at pace without the added financial risk.”

Transforming the way freelancers work with digital agencies, Interim Digital facilitates true integration of digital specialisms by hand selecting freelancers that are expertly tailored to collaborate on client briefs. Sourcing freelancers from across the digital landscape, every skill is catered for including; tech SEOs, content writers, digital PR specialists, CRO experts, digital project managers, analytics experts and more.

As they review their second year in business, the demand for services has shifted due to the skills gap agencies face especially in senior roles. Whilst SEO and content strategy have still remained the most in demand, Interim has seen an uplift in need for PPC and Digital PR support.

Ginny explains, “One area we are seeing an uptick this year is for agencies to partner with freelancers for overarching team support i.e. mentoring, reviewing process, helping with pitch narrative which is where agencies get extra value as the freelancer partner leaves lasting value as opposed to being a purely delivery partner.

“We’re working closely with agencies to help them get the most out of freelancers in this way as a senior injection of talent that can be deployed quickly can have a fantastic impact on agencies and their teams in a fraction of the time it takes to recruit full time positions.”
