£1 bus travel in Sunderland

A new flat fare structure being launched today in Sunderland will see bus passengers being able to travel across the city for just £1. Bus operator Go North East is introducing the £1 flat fare for all single journeys in Sunderland to simplify fares. The Pound2Go ticket will run for a trial period initially. It coincides with the launch of several new Go North East branded bus routes in the city. Martin Harris, commercial director at Go North East, said: “The new £1 ticket offers great value for customers and will make travelling on our buses even easier. One fare for all means there’s no confusion over prices and will make journeys swifter. “Simple fare like this have worked successfully in others cities and we want to replicate that success here in Sunderland. “Pound2Go will run for a trial period initially but, if it’s successful, we will continue it in the long term.“Go North East is also introducing a new Go’n’Save day ticket in Sunderland. For £2.80 passengers will be able to make as many journeys as they want in a day. The ticket is £1.30 cheaper than the current day ticket. Both tickets cover extensive areas as far as the A19 in the west and the city boundary in the north and the south. The new ticket will not affect concessionary prices on Go North East services.
