A legacy in stone and spirit

It is a privilege to work on projects that offer exciting opportunities for businesses while preserving and celebrating the rich history of Newcastle.

Two properties I’m currently working with stand out for their unique and meaningful stories.

One is a venerable 13th century building and the other, though not old in age, holds a deeply significant personal history tied to a charity that has changed countless lives.

Both properties offer incredible potential for future tenants and owners, and each brings something special to the table.

Located on the south side of Westgate Road, the headquarters of First Step North East is not old in terms of its structure, but it is steeped in a profound and personal history.

Since its founding in 1991, the charity has played a pivotal role in the lives of women and young people in the Newcastle and Gateshead areas, offering vital support through learning, volunteering and mentoring programmes.

The property has been at the heart of this work, helping create lasting change and promoting equality and inclusivity.

While the building itself may not be ancient, the legacy of First Step North East’s impact on the community is truly historic.

For new tenants, the property offers a fantastic space with facilities like disability access, an on-site creche and a fitted kitchen.

It is ideal for any business or charity looking to benefit from a prime location with easy access to local amenities and transport links.

The second property – 4/6 Trinity Chare – is a breathtaking building located on Newcastle Quayside.

Built in the 13th century as a Merchants House, it is a piece of Newcastle’s architectural history that has stood the test of time.

Offering more than 2000sq ft across three floors, the property blends medieval charm with the potential for modern transformation.

Plans to modernise the interior will introduce sustainability-focused features like LED lighting and heat pumps, while retaining the building’s historic character.

This makes 4/6 Trinity Chare a rare and valuable opportunity for any business seeking to stand out in one of the city's most vibrant areas.

Both properties are incredibly special, albeit in different ways.

One represents the enduring legacy of Newcastle's architectural past, while the other embodies a history of transformation and empowerment within the community.

Working on these projects connects the rich past of Newcastle with its exciting future, ensuring these properties continue to play a meaningful role in the city’s evolution.
