£3.8m boost for North East groups

43 organisations in the North East will receive grants totalling £3,846,885 from the Northern Rock Foundation. Amongst those to receive the cash are Tyneside Cyrenians, a construction skills training centre for homeless people; a healthy eating initiative for schoolchildren from The Soil Association; the purchase of a youth hostel as a community asset in Northumberland by Glendale Gateway Trust; Dyslexia Action, who run a support programme for young people with Dyslexia. Alastair Balls, Chairman of Northern Rock Foundation, said: “I’m delighted to announce Northern Rock Foundation’s third round of grants in 2006. The awards represent a total investment of £13.5 million in people and places across the North East and Cumbria. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of all those involved, these grants will help tackle disadvantage in local communities, and to improve quality of life in our region as a whole.”
