ASBO for cockerel

A Scottish council is seeking an Asbo against the owner of a cockerel which crows too early and too loudly, reports the Scotsman. Charlie, a three-year-old cockerel, has been recorded breaking the 30-decibel limit set by the World Health Organisation. As a result Borders Council are insisting an order be drawn up to keep the bird silent between the hours of 11pm and 7am. Owner Kenneth Willliamson said: “I’ve had him since he was an egg.” Nevertheless the future looks bleak for Charlie if he can’t stop his crowing - Council Asbo officer Kerr Scott warned “The vet has informed me there is nothing that can be done to quieten a cockerel, other than wring its neck.”
