Bank holiday (black and) blues

With the weather this bank holiday, DIY really did seem like a better alternative to the music festivals in the North East. However, for the people of Gloucestershire a trip to B&Q is never on the agenda at this time of year. Instead the locals (and many visitors) gathered in Brockworth to celebrate the old Roman tradition of chasing a 4kg Double Gloucester cheese down the 200m Cooper’s Hill.The race ended victorious for those who caught the cheese and got to take it home with them. But for those who threw themselves into it a bit too vigorously, they may well be nursing sore limbs today. In fact, 25 people were hurt in the event with 2 needing hospital treatment. If you fancy trying your luck at next year’s event, it takes place on 28th May 2007 at 12pm.
