Cafépolitique: Rich to Poor: Can philanthropy Deliver Social Good?
Cafépolitique – an initiative by ippr north – takes place today with a theme of exploring the changing face of philanthropy and its role in the UK today.
The event welcomes Ian Gregg, former Chairman, Greggs plc and George Hepburn, Community Foundation Tyne and Wear, who will open the discussion. The event explores how philanthropy has changed from its early days, discussing what the scope is for philanthropy in the UK is today.
Other subjects up for discussion include: whether we should follow the more established US model of philanthropy and whether there are dangers over whether some philanthropists could use giving as a way of abdicating other responsibilities. The event will also discuss the role philanthropy has and could play in the North looking at new initiatives such as the Community Foundation’s Acorn Funds programme.
cafépolitique will be held on Monday 6 February from 7 to 9pm at World Headquarters, Curtis Mayfield House, Carliol Square, Newcastle. For directions, click here.
