Car Crime Falls On Teesside

A team of officers which targets car thieves has smashed car crime by a third during the last quarter of last year (October to December 2005).

Cleveland Police Force’s Operation Hatch has seen the number of stolen cars fall by 38% when compared with the same period in 2004. Thefts from motor vehicles have also fallen by over 20% (594 compared with 761) and vehicle interference figures have more than halved - again when compared with the last quarter of 2004 (129 compared with 280).

A new poster campaign reminding motorists to remove belongings from cars and to use locks and alarms when they leave their vehicle begins on 13 February.
