Careers bus spins into Stockton
A mobile careers bus which encourages young people to consider jobs and training opportunities in the North East spun into Stockton’s International Riverside Festival on Friday as it continued its whistle-stop tour of the region. The nerd bus, operated by Aspire, is a fun and funky tour bus which is scheduled to visit town centres all over the region. It is jam packed with goodie bags and information for young people about careers and training opportunities in the region. The recent Stockton stop-off at the International Riverside Festival gave young people a chance to collect specialised information on careers in performing arts plus many other local career options. Michael Sogbuten, a professional break-dancer from The Stockton Arc, demonstrated some gravity defying moves outside the tour bus and passed on tips and tricks to youngsters interested in break-dancing opportunities in the North East. Other employers on board at the Stockton stop included Hertel, Creative Partnerships, NRG, 15 minute society, itech, Stockton Riverside College, Middlesbrough College and the Princes’ Trust.Pamela Hargreaves, young people and partnerships manager at Aspire, said: “Young people’s heads are already spinning regarding career options as the GCSE and A-Level results are due at the end of the month. This makes it a perfect time to visit the nerd bus and pick up some free advice.“The next stop for the nerd bus and its team is on Newcastle’s Northumberland Street on Friday 11th August then Hartlepool, Villiers Street on 17th August before its final stop of the summer at Sunderland City Centre on Thursday 24th August.
