Chew Bad for Turkish Official

A Turkish politician has been charged with insulting the country’s founding leader by chewing gum during an official ceremony. Reuters.com reports that the disgraced politician chewed gum as he placed a wreath commemorating the 86th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey. Veysel Dalci, the head of the Justice and Development Party in the Black Sea coastal town of Fatsa, said he had the gum to freshen his breath after eating garlic. “I noticed I had a gum in my mouth after laying the wreath,” he explained. “I am very sorry.”
