Cultural events on Tyneside explore climate change

A programme of cultural events, exploring the potentially devastating effects of climate change on our environment, takes place across Tyneside next month. The Climate Change Cultural Change programme brings together new artist commissions, photography, film, events and exhibitions to raise awareness of the implications of climate change.Developed by Helix Arts in partnership with CarbonNeutral Newcastle, the programme begins with an exhibition at The Globe Gallery. It will feature works by renowned artist in residence Michael Pinsky for the programme, focussing on attitudes towards global pollution through a series of multi-screen video installations. This will be the first time the video works will have been shown in the UK.Another highlight will be David Buckland’s Water-Mist Wall Video. Situated in an archway behind The Sage Gateshead, Buckland will create a huge wall of water with a video loop filmed in the Arctic projected onto it. Members of the public will also have the opportunity to witness environmental artists Heath Bunting and Kayle Brandon convert a diesel van to a vehicle which runs on vegetable oil in an exciting installation at Monument in Newcastle city centre.
