European Year of Workers' Mobility Website

2006 has been designated the European Year for Workers’ Mobility. By designating 2006 as the European Year of Workers’ Mobility, the EU aims to achieve three concrete objectives:

To raise awareness of:

  • the rights of workers to free movement between the Member States
  • the existing possibilities for geographical and job mobility and of the services which exist to support them
  • the barriers faced by potentially mobile workers, both within and between Member States and the need for action by support services
  • to promote the exchange of good practice between the stakeholders concerned, in particular public authorities and institutions, the social partners and the private sector
  • To promote deeper study of the scale and nature of geographical and occupational mobility within the EU.

More information about this and more can now be found on the brand new European Year of Workers’ Mobility, which is now online in 3 languages (English, French and German).

Among the information available, you will find:

  • news on the campaign and its related activities (i.e. call for proposals in the framework of the EU Year such as the call for pilot projects to be published in the forthcoming weeks information on how to take part in the EU Year information related to mobility for further reading (ie: proposal for a Directive on “portability of pensions”[1])
  • links to the EURES Network. The European year will be officially launched during a conference ““Workers’ Mobility: a right, an option, an opportunity?” to be held in Brussels (20-21 February). This event will also be the launch of the new EURES portal.

More information on this event is also available from this website. The website is available at the following address: europa.eu.int/comm/employment_social/workersmobility2006/index_en.htm
