Exhibition has designs on the region
An annual design festival which gives local designers the chance to exhibit alongside their national and international counterparts has opened on Tyneside. Design Festival 2006, which kicked off last week, has doubled in size since its inception last year. Highlights of the Festival include I SPY, an exhibition based on an open call process, with designers set the brief of “I Spy With My Little Eye”, asking them to respond with something they had seen or that had inspired them in the past 24 hours. The exhibition, which runs at the Robert Stephenson building until 25th June, features work from prestigious designers such as Build, Delaware, Sweden Graphics, Adam Pointer, Steve Rowland, Zip Design, Insect and Hype Type as well as having a strong local element. Also not to be missed is an inspirational showcase of contemporary design to be held in the now decommissioned Central Fire Station on Pilgrim Street. Opening on 22nd June for four days, Launch2006 will showcase cutting edge commercial products including hot new furniture, lighting, jewellery and interior accessories to both local and national audiences.
