Female entrepreneurs top the bill at Big Day Event

The region’s biggest business event of the year will see women entrepreneurs headline the speakers’ list. The Big Day Event marks the climax of a week-long programme of local events across the region from 30 June – 6 July: Business Week Tyne & Wear.Topping the speakers’ list for this year’s event at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light will be Channel 4’s Make a Million’s winner Leila Wilcox and presentation expert to the stars, Rosemary Bailey. At the age of 25, young mum Leila is one of the UK’s richest and most successful female entrepreneurs, since winning the reality TV show with her Halos n Horns baby shampoo idea. Leila will be sharing her story on how she made retail history by going head-to-head with the big manufacturers to produce kids’ toiletries that don’t harm kids’ health. Together with her Business Mentor Ivan Massow, Leila beat the other two teams to win the TV competition. Halos n Horns expects to turn over £9.7m after its first year of trading and is now number three in the market place, behind Johnson & Johnson and Unilever and ahead of Simple. Its products are stocked in major UK supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsburys and Waitrose. Leila has been nominated for a number of business awards and her company has already won its first award – the Flying Start award, after only 8 months of trading. Tips on ‘how to be likeable’ will be another of the star attractions as world-renowned presentation sales expert Rosemary Bailey travels to Sunderland to host her “Charisma Clinic”. The workshop is designed to help people gain the attributes needed to walk in to a high-pressure sales presentation and make people fall in love with you – and win their business. The Big Day will feature a showcase of 60 organisations and host a programme of seminars, workshops and growth clinics to cater for businesses of all sizes and sectors in the North-East. The event is FREE to attend, but delegates must register at www.business-week.org/bigdayevent.
