Festivals set to rock bank holiday

The Bank Holiday weekend will be a veritable feast for music lovers in the North East as not one, but three festivals look set to rock the region. One-day music festival Hi-Fi North, will take place at Matfen Estate, in Northumberland National Park this Saturday May 27th, bringing with it an impressive line up of bands and alternative events. The festival, which is a strictly no camping festival, is set to finish in the small hours of Sunday morning and includes a number of features including rock-climbing, the comedy club, and various chill-out zones. The line up includes Editors, Ian Brown and Dirty Pretty Things.The region’s biggest music event - Orange Evolution festival - also reaches its climax this weekend with Monday’s Freevolution06 transforming NewcastleGateshead Quayside into an outdoor music arena with three stages. Go! Team, Hard Fi and Orson are some of the headline acts of the free one-day event. Freevolution kicks off at 1.30pm on Newcastle Quayside and Gateshead Quays and runs until late evening. For full Freevolution details log on to www.orangeevolution.co.uk.Finally, the Evening Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund is hosting a two-day tribute band ‘picnics and music’ event at Newcastle Racecourse. Marvellous 06 on Saturday and Sunday has a line-up which includes The Bootleg Beatles, Rumours of Fleetwood Mac and Viva Santana, as well as performances from One Night of Queen, the Illegal Eagles and the UK Beach Boys. The money raised from the event will go towards improving the quality of life of sick and disabled children and their families in the North East.
