Footballing Legend On Loan To Conference Team
A footballing legend has been signed up to help market the benefits of NewcastleGateshead as a world-class conference and meetings destination. Former Newcastle United player Peter Beardsely will be on loan to NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, appearing at their exhibition stand at International Confex 2006 this month.
The three-day exhibition for the events industry is being held in London from 21- 23 February. NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau will be exhibiting on the first day of Confex, with the aim of raising the profile of the burgeoning conference industry on Tyneside, which is currently worth £100m a year. Sue Crawley, head of business tourism and membership at NewcastleGateshead Initiative which operates the area’s Convention Bureau, said: “We are delighted to have Peter who is such a fantastic ambassador for the area, joining us at this important show where we can promote the benefits of NewcastleGateshead direct to some of the key national and international conference buyers.
“Peter has such strong associations with NewcastleGateshead and has helped raise the profile of the area so much nationally and internationally during his remarkable football career that he was the ideal choice to join us at the exhibition.” Peter Beardsley said:” I love this area and am proud to say that this is where I come from. It’s always been a place people have loved to visit because they knew they were guaranteed a warm welcome, but now people also want to come because they’ve heard there’s is so much to see and do here.”
